Where to Find Great Design
By Mark L. Casey | October 28, 2008
One of the most exciting aspects of product development is product design. When entrepreneurs and inventors begin to translate their ideas into reality, they often contract with a professional design group for some or all of the design. Even large companies with their own engineering and design capabilities will often contract out some part of the design process to a contract design firm or to an individual designer.
Regardless of whether you are looking for industrial design, mechanical design, electrical design, RF engineering, packaging design, or any other type of design service, there is a firm out there waiting for your call. The question is where to find these firms.
The best online source I have found for locating engineering and design groups is the Core 77 Design Directory. I first became familiar with this resource several years ago when looking for industrial design firms. The advanced search function allows the user to really narrow the search to yield meaningful results.
As always, search results should only be the beginning of the process of selecting a designer.
